How does Select differ from Visit Philly, Global Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, and other similar organizations?
Select distinguishes itself by being the only organization focused on attracting businesses to the 11-county Greater Philadelphia region, and helping existing regional organizations to expand. That being said, we often collaborate with these and other similar, like-minded teams to enhance our services and activities and further our region-wide goal of advancing Greater Philadelphia.
- Visit Philadelphia, which is funded by taxes paid by hotel room guests, is focused on attracting leisure travelers to the five-county region of southeastern Pennsylvania.
- The PHLCVB, which is also funded by taxes paid by hotel room guests, is focused on attracting conventions and meetings to the City of Philadelphia.
Global Philadelphia is an organization that assists and encourages international engagement, promotes the development of international awareness, and enhances the global profile of the Greater Philadelphia region.
Does Select have a board or governing body?
The Select Operating Committee (SOC) is the non-fiduciary governing body that advises and guides Select’s activities and priorities. It’s volunteer-driven and it’s made up of representatives from organizations that have made significant investments of time, funds, and/or related resources to support Select’s mission. The current chair of the SOC is Bill Sasso of Stradley Ronan Stevens & Young.
Who leads Select?
From a paid staff perspective, Select’s Executive Director is Matt Cabrey. Matt reports to Rob Wonderling, President and CEO of The Chamber.
From a volunteer perspective, Select is led by the chair of the Select Operating Committee (SOC), a non-fiduciary governing body that advises and guides Select’s activities and priorities. The current chair of the SOC is Bill Sasso of Stradley Ronan Stevens & Young.
How does Select define the Greater Philadelphia region?
Consistent with The Chamber’s service area, Select’s business attraction activities are focused on the 11-county region of Greater Philadelphia: New Castle County in northern Delaware; Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer, and Salem counties in southern New Jersey; and Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in southeastern Pennsylvania.
How long has Select been around?
With roots dating back to 2002, Select was officially formed in 2004. While it has always been associated with The Chamber, it had been a separate 501c(6) entity until 2014, when that entity was dissolved and Select operations were formally integrated with The Chamber.
How many employees does Select have?
Select currently has six full-time employees and two part-time employees.
What is the Select Greater Philadelphia Council?
Select Greater Philadelphia Council (Select) is the business attraction marketing organization for the 11-county region of northern Delaware, southern New Jersey, and southeastern Pennsylvania. We accomplish our goal of enhancing the economic vibrancy of our collective community by inviting companies from around the world to establish operations here, and by supporting the expansion activities of organizations currently based in our 11-county region.
In addition to marketing, branding, and communications activities, the Select team provides other key business attraction support, such as research and data services, real estate consultancy, and business connection services.
What is Select’s relationship to The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia?
Select is the business attraction entity of The Chamber, and its administrative operations are part of The Chamber. Equally important, the business attraction work and mission of Select are aligned with The Chamber’s goals and objectives.
