GREATER PHILADELPHIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, SELECT GREATER PHILADELPHIA LAUNCH TV AD PROMOTING REGION AS A WORLD-CLASS BUSINESS DESTINATION

PHILADELPHIA – Today, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) and Select Greater Philadelphia (Select) launched a new business attraction television Public Service Announcement (PSA) to air in East Coast media markets. Thanks to the generous donation from Comcast Corporation, the PSA will run through August 2014 and air across 50 Comcast channels.

“We are thrilled to be able to market this outstanding region as a topnotch destination for business expansion, talent attraction, and business gatherings. We thank Comcast for their continuing commitment to the Greater Philadelphia region, helping us better tell our story and attracting more companies,” said Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Rob Wonderling.

The ad aligns with the new PHL: Here for the Making campaign, launched on February 12, 2014.  GPCC and Select are part of a strategic partnership created by the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB), which aims to position Greater Philadelphia as a world-class destination.

“We are pleased to support this effort by the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Select Greater Philadelphia to attract and grow more businesses to the region,” said Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen, a member of both the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. “Philadelphia is a premier destination with a dynamic business community committed to enhancing the region as a great place to live and work.”

Through strategic promotional efforts, the campaign will focus on key sectors within the Greater Philadelphia region to include energy and manufacturing, life sciences and information technology, to name a few.

Other partners include: the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, Pennsylvania Convention Center and Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association. The cooperative marketing campaign highlights compelling stories about the people and businesses making great things in the city and region. Marketing components include the new television commercial, advertising for all mediums, an extensive social media program, and global press outreach.

Old City Philadelphia-based marketing agency Mighty Engine developed the campaign with the PHLCVB, with inspiration from the local and national makers’ movement.  The new campaign aims to strengthen Greater Philadelphia’s position as a world-class destination for business gatherings, expansion and global tourism.

Select Greater Philadelphia Assists Commuter-Services Company in Relocating Headquarters to Philadelphia

Following an extensive site selection process, vRide, a provider of commuter transportation services, announced on February 12 that it has relocated its corporate headquarters to Philadelphia.

vRide has entered into a lease for a 4,300-square-foot loft-style site in Old City, Philadelphia. The company will invest more than $1.6 million to support the expansion through renovations, site improvements and new equipment. vRide also committed to creating 75 new jobs within three years.

Helped by Select Greater Philadelphia (Select) in their real estate site search, vRide was also assisted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Governor’s Action Team and the Department of Community and Economic Development, and the City of Philadelphia.

“The daily commute is about to get cheaper, cleaner and less stressful. vRide’s innovative technology application will take cars off the road and make commuting more productive. It is a great fit for Greater Philadelphia’s growing technology economy,” said Thomas G. Morr, CEO of the regional economic development organization, Select Greater Philadelphia. “Select was delighted to collaborate with business leaders and officials from Pennsylvania and Philadelphia to help attract the company headquarters here” Morr said.

The company received a funding proposal from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which offered a $250,000 Pennsylvania First Program grant, $150,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits, and a $29,100 Guaranteed Free Training grant to be used for skills training for both new and incumbent employees. The company has accepted the funding proposal, but must still apply for each loan and grant and agree to the terms prior to award receipt.

“When evaluating the ideal location for our new headquarters, we looked for a city with great talent, infrastructure and a positive approach to sustainability, “vRide CEO Ann Fandozzi said.  ”It was clear that Philadelphia was the perfect choice for us as we continue to develop consumer and business technologies that enable commuters to find the best ride to work. We thank the Corbett administration, the city and Select Greater Philadelphia on helping make this a success.”

“Philadelphia is increasingly home to one of the country’s most exciting and dynamic technology sectors and vRide is a great addition to the community,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter. “Most exciting is that vRide’s move into this space was made possible by the fast growth of another technology company, Artisan Mobile, which moved into even larger space in Old City to accommodate additional employees. All very positive signs that Philadelphia is the place to be if you want to start and grow your business.”

Founded in 1977 as Van Pool Services, Inc. as a subsidiary of the Chrysler Corporation, vRide now serves 40 metropolitan regions. The world’s largest private provider of commuter transportation services was purchased by TPG Growth, LLC in 2010. For more information on vRide visit www.vride.com.
