Select Greater Philadelphia Emissary Guidelines


Select Greater Philadelphia’s (Select) Emissary Program is a team of diverse business and civic leaders who are each passionate about living, working and innovating in Greater Philadelphia, and who want to serve as focused, highly engaged advocates to promote our community as the place to establish and grow a business and career to a national and global audience. By helping to position the unique and dynamic business assets of our community, Select’s Emissaries help drive the economic vibrancy of our collective community through attracting new businesses and new jobs to our 11-county region.

Program Description

The Emissary Program is an initiative of Select Greater Philadelphia, a Council of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia (Chamber).  It’s made up of Select’s investors and partners, Chamber members, and other engaged business and civic leaders, and provides a structured approach for volunteers be actively engaged with marketing the region and attracting new businesses and new jobs to our community.

Your Role

1. Promote the business assets of our 11-county community of Greater Philadelphia.
2. Provide facts and insights to help update Select’s marketing and storytelling materials.
3. Generate potential leads of businesses large and small from across all industry sectors and from around the country and the world that may want to learn more about establishing and growing their operations in northern Delaware, southern New Jersey, or southeastern Pennsylvania.
4. Promote Select as the business attraction marketing organization for Greater Philadelphia.
5. Attend and promote Select programs and events.

Business Advantages for Volunteering as an Emissary

Serving as a Select Greater Philadelphia Emissary offers personal and professional growth opportunities and related benefits, including:

1. Tangible demonstration that they personally and their companies are steadfast advocates who are actively promoting growth across Greater Philadelphia.
2. Introductions to and connections with other business and civic leaders, including members of Select’s Advisory Board, which consists of C-Suite leaders.
3. Exposure and recognition with and through Select Greater Philadelphia – on the website, social media, related promotional materials, specific Select events, and opportunities through Select’s radio/podcast program.
4. The chance to engage with your organization’s senior leaders to encourage messaging about Greater Philadelphia’s assets in their communications.
5. Active engagement with the Business Expansion projects you may provide to the Select team.
6. Preferred status and complimentary or discounted tickets to targeted Select events and programs for you and others in your network.
7. Exclusive invitations to Emissary meetings and other Select gatherings.

Composition and Participation Criteria

The Select team will equip our Emissaries with the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to promote Greater Philadelphia’s assets, ultimately enhancing awareness of the 11-county’s strengths.  This more unified alignment of the positive image of Greater Philadelphia will open new connections with national and international audiences to generate leads with companies interested in locating and or expanding operations in this area. The Emissary Program is a team of up to 100 members, representing mid-level and above business and civic leaders from a broad range of Select’s investors, Chamber members, and the community at large.

Here is what it takes to serve as an Emissary:

1. Live and or work in the 11-county community of Greater Philadelphia. This neighborhood includes New Castle County in northern Delaware; Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer, and Salem County in southern New Jersey; and Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia County in southeastern Pennsylvania.
2. Serve as middle to senior management level professional within your organization.
3. Agree to serve a two (2) year term.
4. An annual application must be submitted before September 30 of each calendar year for prospective new members. Each current Emissary is asked to complete a new application at the end of their two year term.
5. Participation is limited to 100 people, and applications will be reviewed and approved by the Select Greater Philadelphia team in consultation with the Select Advisory Board.
6. No more than two (2) representatives from the same organization may serve as a Select Greater Philadelphia Emissary.
7. Attendance at each of the two (2) annual Emissary gatherings.
8. Promote and attend other Select Greater Philadelphia event and activities.

Financial Investment

Active engagement with Select Greater Philadelphia and or our Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia is required, offering mutual value and benefits.

1. Select Greater Philadelphia Investor: no fee; this is part of your organization’s investment.
2. Chamber Member: $1,000 investment in Select Greater Philadelphia. This is for organizations that are members of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, but not yet an investor of our Select Greater Philadelphia Council.
3. Non-Select Investor and Non-Chamber Member: $2,500. This is for organizations that are not a current member of the Chamber or current investor of Select.
