Amazon HQ2: Regional collaboration and innovation

Select is part of a core team that is coming together in an effort to pitch Amazon on Philadelphia as an HQ2 location. Since Amazon’s announcement, cities across the continent have been scrambling to prove that they have exactly what Amazon desires.

While cities like Denver, Boston, and Chicago are top of the list, Philadelphia offers key elements: an east coast location, affordability, mass transit options, a deep talent pool and available space.

Select has been engaging our State and County economic develop teams to help craft a unified approach to our response, identifying potential sites across our 11 county community that meet the criteria, and fine-tuning the story of our regional business assets. We’ve engaged our business and civic leaders in our efforts, and work is underway to engage other key stakeholders ranging from our higher education community, STEM leaders, tech community, small business owners, legislators, and more.

Our immediate goal is straightforward: make the short list of communities that Amazon wants to visit. We know that Greater Philadelphia is the perfect place for Amazon HQ2, and now we have to communicate that to the Amazon leadership team.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Two weeks ago, NBC10 interviewed Matt Cabrey just before he embarked on an informal trip to Seattle, Washington. This trip was intended to glean insight from Amazon representatives into the company’s culture and learn more about what they are looking for in the RFP.
