Site Selection Magazine Features Greater Philadelphia’s Cell & Gene Therapy Initiative

August 7, 2020/in Cell and Gene Therapy and Connected Health, Results /by Carly Gardner

Greater Philadelphia’s Cell & Gene Therapy and Connected Health Initiative is featured in a two-page investment profile in the July 2020 issue of Site Selection magazine. The publication, which reports on corporate real estate strategies and economic development, has an audience of 48,000 subscribers, including 4,400 who represent biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturers. The article, “Cradle of Cures,” by author Gary Daughters, details Greater Philadelphia as a center of excellence in cell and gene therapies. The profile is part of a paid sponsorship initiative by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia’s regional CEO Council for Growth (CEO Council) and the magazine. It’s featured in the print issue, the digital edition, and on the Site Selection website.

“Site Selection magazine reaches readers who are key decision makers when it comes to making site location decisions,” said Meghan Kelly, Director, Business Expansion Services for the CEO Council. “More than half of the subscribers are CEOs, partners, chairmen, presidents, or owners. The magazine is a great outlet for us to share news of the region’s strengths in cell and gene therapy, and tell the story of what makes Greater Philadelphia an attractive site to locate or expand your company.”

Several of the region’s leaders in cell and gene therapy are quoted in the story, sharing what makes the region an attractive site for the sector. Bradley Campbell, President and CEO of Amicus Therapeutics, said, “Philadelphia is becoming the ‘cradle of cures,’ a beacon for this entire industry.” The company’s new Global Research and Gene Therapy Center of Excellence, a $25 million facility that opened in University City in March, will help them attract the best gene therapy scientists in the world, he said.

Joan Lau, CEO of Spirovant Sciences, referenced the proportion of the world’s cell and gene therapy companies in University City and the region. “What is happening here is extraordinary, and it can only occur with this type of density,” she said.

The Greater Philadelphia profile piece also references the region as a center for talent in the field. “Everything we do stops and starts with people, and Philadelphia is a hotbed for developing talent in the scientific and disease areas,” Usman “Oz” Azam, President and CEO of Tmunity said.

“Local leaders here have been tremendously supportive and proactive. They recognize the impact of this vibrant life sciences community,” said Art Howe, Chief Financial Officer of Imvax. “They understand that this is a large part of the future of this city.”

The profile is also posted on the magazine’s website. The CEO Council encourages partners and stakeholders to share the profile with their contacts and on their social media channels.
